Eulogy for an iPod

I can feel it. My iPod should conk out any day now.

The other day I charged my iPod for about two to three hours. Yesterday, after I played it for less than thirty minutes, the logo on the upper right hand corner of the screen showed that there was only a sliver of battery life left! (Take note: I do not turn on the backlight).

How the hell can thirty minutes of playing consume nearly all my iPod's battery, when an iPod mini's battery life should have been about 18 hours?!

Maybe it's just the screen logo fooling me. After all, I played my iPod for about three hours today, and the battery measure still looked the same. But then again, it would mean that my iPod is at least defective, if not totally dying out on me.

I'd hate to lose my iPod. :( I bring it with me almost every day, and is as much as an extension of myself as my cellphone (yes, I love my gadgets that much). If it dies, that would be $200 down the drain, though nobody could say that I didn't use it to its fullest extent while it was still up and functioning.

Also, if it conked out now I'd have to buy another one, which would mean that I'd have to save money for it (highly unlikely, since I only get 500 pesos a week), or I'd have to ask my dear pater to shell out 15,000 to buy me one (highly unlikely too, since my dad already bought an iPod nano for my sister and I think that he has no desire to undergo the wallet-wracking experience again).

I can't say that I didn't see it coming, though. First the left earphone was making weird crackling sounds (because apparently the bass mechanism was damaged; however, this was easily remedied by sucking on the earphone - yup, you read that right!). Then a scratch appeared on its blue surface. Then it was the click wheel, since for some unknown reason the stop/pause button suddenly became harder to press.

I can live with those. Really. As long as the iPod still plays music, I won't buy a new one. So please, please hang in there, iPod. :(

But somehow, I can hear the sputtering sounds of its battery dying...
